On my mind

I love chatting about anything to do with writing, from practical tips to esoteric musings. I’d love to swap book recommendations or chat about the themes that keep coming out in my own writing (from precarious mental health to inequality, isolation and the cost of healthcare). I'm based in Edinburgh and very interested in the ways Scotland's literary scene compares to others around the world and would be very open to conversations of comparisons and discoveries. I’m also very open to hearing from aspiring writers who’d like to talk about rejection and resilience, . I’m also a freelance copywriter and enjoy chatting about the various hats many writers and creatives wear. Most of all, I’m keen to hear whatever you have to share.

I’ve had the privilege to connect with a whole host of people who love books over the years and am confident that readers and writers are some of the most interesting folk around. Ellis’s life has crumbled without warning. Her boyfriend has fallen in love with someone else, her job’s insecure, her bank account’s empty and she has a mouthful of unreliable teeth. Forced back to her childhood home, there is little in the way of comfort. Her mum is dating a younger man (a dentist, no less) and is talking of selling the house, her sister, Lana, is furious all the time, and a distant cousin has now arrived from the States to stay with them.

During a long, hot Edinburgh summer, Ellis’s world spins out of control. She’s dogged by toothache, her ex won’t compensate her for the flat and somehow she’s found herself stalking his new lover on Facebook.

Where and how calls happen

You'll receive a phone call from Skolay at the time of your call that will automatically connect you with the writer.

Cancellations

Skolay offers free cancellations when done more than 24 hours in advance of a call. However, calls cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled start time will incur a fee of 25% of the total price out of respect for the writer’s time.

Late to a call

You have five minutes to join the call after the scheduled start time. After that point the call window will close and you will be charged the full price of the conversation.
